Doing some shopping for some recipe testing is always exciting, but was even more delicious following Jennifer's late February trip to Bell's (8534 Bustleton Ave., Philadelphia) in the heart of Northeast Philly's Russian enclave. Many of the labels along the aisles of canned and bottled goods might be in Russian, but there's no mistaking the fish in its large deli display.
You want desserts? You've never seen so much cake or special pastries.
The olive loaf (left), salted foccaccia-style bread (right) and other assorted bread styles were a doughy dream.
Prices, overall, are reasonable (especially for a specialty store), and there's also a pretty solid selection of fresh produce at any given time. Check them out on Yelp or go visit them yourself. You'll definitely find something you like. Photos by Jennifer McCafferty |

Bell's Market has earned quite a reputation for the depth and breadth of its Russian and Eastern European offerings at its Rhawnhurst deli and grocery. Still, we were floored by the selection, especially its breads and desserts.
