Waste Not: Events Can Be Sustainable

Our philosophy is pretty simple: We like natural and hand-crafted things. We don’t like waste. We strive to intersect style, function and budget for all your culinary and social endeavors.

Having worked in the corporate events industry in Greater Philadelphia for nearly a decade, we’ve seen a tremendous amount of waste – excess food and beverages, needless plastic containers and service ware, and decor/giveaways that are unhealthy or not useful.

Estimates place the amount of food wasted annually by Americans between 25 and 40 percent.

It is for these reasons -- and a belief that good business, good health and good taste can harmoniously co-exist -- that JPM has made sustainability a pillar of its operations since its very founding.

It's why our menus are guided by the seasons. It's why we're a proud member of the Sustainable Business Network.

sbn_seal_croppedWe have also implemented a variety of practices, products and services that help promote this philosophy:

  • We use biodegradeable containers, service ware and trash bags for all drop-off events and many full-service events.
  • We compost all food waste and recycle everything used in our kitchen or at events.
  • We get the majority of our meats, milk, butter, eggs and vegetables (in PA growing season) from Lancaster Farm Fresh in Lancaster County. We also utilize other local vendors and growers whenever possible and to meet specific client needs.
  • We specialize in all-natural and re-usable or repurposed décor.
  • We grow the majority (80 percent in PA growing season) of our herbs and edible flowers ourselves.
  • We regularly use service ware made from bamboo, a sturdy, long-lasting renewable resource.
